Regional anaesthesia for upper limb trauma: a review
نویسنده
چکیده
Trauma to the upper limb is extremely common. Many of these patients present for surgery and anaesthesia as an emergency case, often complicated by other injuries and requiring effective perioperative analgesia. Although the use of regional anaesthesia for elective upper limb surgery has greatly increased, there is a lack of readily available information on the use and potential benefits of regional anaesthesia, as well as the choice of block for upper limb trauma. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the role of regional anaesthesia for both anaesthesia and analgesia in the management of upper limb trauma. The review will also focus on the use of regional anaesthesia for paediatric patients with upper limb trauma, the choice of anaesthetic technique, acute compartment syndrome and upper limb blockade and the use of intravenous regional anaesthesia.

A Comparison between Single and Double Tourniquet Technique in Distal Upper Limb Orthopedic Surgeries with Intravenous Regional Anesthesia
Background: Several studies have put an effort to minimize the tourniquet pain and complications after conventionaldouble tourniquet intravenous regional anesthesia (IVRA). We expressed in our hypothesis that an upper arm singlewide tourniquet (ST) may serve a better clinical efficacy rather than the conventional upper arm double tourniquet (DT)in distal upper extremity surgeries. Methods: In th...

We report a case of a patient developing complex regional pain syndrome of the upper limb after a laceration injury with glass. The pain in his hand was resistant to all conventional modes of treatment. The pain reduced dramatically after a diagnostic lidocaine infusion and the reduction in pain lasted for 3 days. Following this the patient responded well to lidoderm 5% patches and achieved 80%...
متن کاملUltrasound-guided regional anesthesia for upper limb surgery.
PURPOSE The purpose of this module is to review the main ultrasound-guided approaches used for regional anesthesia of the upper limb. PRINCIPAL FINDINGS The anatomical configuration of the upper limb, with nerves often bundled around an artery, makes regional anesthesia of the arm both accessible and reliable. In-depth knowledge of upper limb anatomy is required to match the blocked territory...
متن کاملPeripheral regional anaesthesia and outcome: lessons learned from the last 10 years.
BACKGROUND Our aim was to review the recent evidence for the efficacy of peripheral regional anaesthesia. METHODS Following a systematic literature search and selection of publications based on prospectively agreed upon criteria, we produced a narrative review of the most commonly performed peripheral regional anaesthetic blocks for surgery on the upper limb, the lower limb, and the trunk. We...

PURPOSE To report injury patterns and management of musculoskeletal injuries after an earthquake. METHODS 94 male and 161 female patients aged 17 to 90 (mean, 53) years underwent surgery for musculoskeletal injuries. Their injury patterns, anaesthesia administered, surgeries undertaken, and development of postoperative complications were reviewed. RESULTS Of the 255 patients, 155 sustained ...
